Farar and Israr tied the knot recently in a dreamy “Alice in Wonderland” theme. As Farah is Chinese, while her husband, Israr, is Muslim, the wedding featured a good mix of both Chinese and Muslim traditions.
Farah recounts, “Our akad nikah (Muslim solemnisation) was held by the beach at Shangri-la’s Rasa Sentosa Resort. For the solemnisation, the venue was decorated into an ethereal wonderland of flowers and chiffon.” Such an arrangement provided a romantic and contemporary setting while retaining important aspects of Muslim traditions.
For the Bersanding (enthronement), the couple went all out with their theme while making sure that there was an “eclectic fusion of both Malay and Chinese cultures”. Although key customs of the Bersanding were retained, the couple put in painstaking effort to customize the decroations to fit the Wonderland theme. As a result, guests were treated to a visual feast and whisked away to a magical wonderland, with beautfiul flowers, fairies and cute little mushrooms to boot!
Of course, Chinese wedding customs were featured as well, in the form of the traditional gate-crashing. The groom and his buddies sportingly took up the challenge to meet head-on the “bunny bridesmaids” of Wonderland.
The wedding was a great success, and a memory that will be kept forever in the couple’s hearts. As Farah commented, “All the hard work, stress and tears of preparing for the wedding truly paid off. Though a wedding ceremony only lasts for a few hours, it is a time that you could never take back. It leaves you with an ever-lasting and boundless cornucopia of beautiful memories that only belongs to you, forever.”
